Last call for Game fishermen. Walleye, Northern pike and Bass
fishing seasons are coming to an end on inland Wisconsin lakes, on Sunday
evening at 11:59 pm, March 7, 2010. They will reopen on the first
full weekend in May 2010, which I believe, is May 1st and 2nd, 2010.
Northern pike fishermen are picking up a nice keeper pike, or two, while
setting tip-ups on the outskirts of the weed edges and drops offs.
Good time to hook into a dandy fish to add to your picture collection and to
release it as they are heading to their spawning areas on the chain of
lakes. Tip-ups tipped with a shiner seem to be working the best for
fishermen.
Walleye fishermen have been finding some action while tip-up fishing in
the evening hours. Deep weed edges and drop offs seem to be a key to
finding them chasing the perch moving through these areas. Walleye
shiners tipped on the end of your treble hook fished a foot to 2 ft. from
the bottom, where the perch tend to be. Again if you hook into a big
one with eggs, please take a picture and release it.
Bluegill and Crappie fishermen are having some good action when
fishing deep weed edges scattered all around the Chetek chain. Early
morning and evening hours seem to be the best times of the day for better
action. Some areas you will find action all day long if you are
willing to hole hop in an area where you will not impose on other
fishermen's holes as you fish an area. Please always be
considerate to not crowd other fishermen on the ice. Jigs of all makes and
colors seem to be working. Wax worms or silver wigglers dipped
in a little of your favorite pan fish attractant tipped on the end of your
hook will better your hook sets when they are at times biting finicky.
Good luck fishermen and enjoy the nice beautiful warm sun shiny days on
the ice. Spring is just around the corner now.
