WEED BEATERS....A few
unfamiliar but friendly faces may be greeting boaters and fishermen
at boat landings on the Chetek Chain of Lakes in the future.
Volunteers from the Chetek Lakes Protection Association will be
patrolling the landings and checking boats and trailers for invasive
species that may be transported from lake to lake. Pictured above
are volunteers who were at local landings Saturday, Sept. 25; left
to right, Don Freeman, John Swenson, John Plaza, Bob August and Tom
Belknap. Not pictured is Shane Samuels. The CLPA is
particularly concerned about Eurasian Milfoil, an invasive
plant that spreads on boat trailers and can overtake entire lake
systems. The group will be out in full force next Spring. Volunteers
are always welcome and may call Don Freeman at 924-3658.

| JERRY ZEHNER, PRESIDENT OF THE CHETEK
LAKES PROTECTION ASSOCIATION, center, presented $2,602.50 to Larry
Grabowski, president of the Walleyes for
Chetek program, right, and Larry Stafsholt treasurer left. The
CLPA had elected at the onset for the program this spring to donate
matching funds for all monies received for this particular program
from the Chetek resort owners. The Walleyes for Chetek program was
created in an effort to solicit money from businesses and
individuals to be able to provide 10,000 five to seven inch Walleyes
for planting in the Chetek Chain of Lakes the end of October. This
is the first year of the program, which, according to Stafsholt, is
hoped to be continued on an annual basis. |
